Flood Event

On January 30, 2026 the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) in partnership with the City of Courtenay, K’ómoks First Nation, and Comox Valley Emergency Management Service issued a State of Local Emergency to support emergency response to flood conditions. These conditions include rising waters, flooding and the risk to property.

Original Event information:
A flood warning was in effect for Dove Creek and nearby areas due to very heavy, localized rainfall.
Water levels in Dove Creek rose rapidly and continued increase in the following hours. At the Dove Creek near the mouth monitoring station, flows were measured at 161 m³/s, which is higher than what is expected during a 100-year flood event.

An Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was opened at the Comox Valley Regional District. Residents were encouraged to follow directions of emergency service personnel and obey all road and trail closures. Requested to stay away from water bodies, waterways and low-lying areas.
