Update March 19, 2019
Construction nearing Completion for the Sandwick Waterworks Conversion
Knappett Industries has been retained by the Comox Valley Regional District and the City of Courtenay to perform water main upgrades on Wentworth Road, Caledon Crescent and Highway 19A. As part of the upgrade, the new water main is to be tied into the existing water system. There are six tie-ins required to connect Sandwick to the Comox Valley water system.
While these six tie-ins are taking place it will be necessary to shut down water service to sections of the Sandwick service area. The next tie-in is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 and is anticipated that this work will take approximately 8 hours to complete. The water service connection will be turned off from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The affected households will be notified by letter. Construction activities can often be disruptive and we apologize in advance for any impacts this work may cause. If you have not been notified by letter it means you are not in the immediately affected area but may still experience discoloured water when a tie-in is completed.
As the existing mains are shut down and re-charged, it is likely that the water will appear dirty. CVRD crews will be working very hard to flush this water out until it clears. This is to be expected when tying into and existing system.
If you do experience discoloured water, running one or more cold water taps in your home for 20 minutes should resolve the issue. Please refrain from using the hot water taps as it might draw dirty water into your tank.
