Planning Services covers a range of current and community planning work as it relates to land use, including:

  • Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan (OCP) amendments
  • Temporary Use Permits (TUPs)
  • Short-Term Rental Accommodations
  • Development Permits (DPs)
    • Steep Slopes, Coastal, Bald Eagle and Great Blue Heron Nest, Freshwater, etc.
  • Development Variance Permits (DVP)
  • Floodplain Bylaw Exemptions
  • Housing as it relates to directing growth and regulating land use
  • Home Occupations
  • Agricultural Land Reserve
  • Subdivision inquiries

The Building Department provides support and information as it pertains to the construction of buildings and structures within the Comox Valley Regional District, including:

  • General inquiries related to construction, repair, and/or demolition of buildings or structures
  • Building Bylaw No. 681
  • Building Permits and related plans
  • British Columbia Building Code (BCBC) information
    • Seismic design, spatial separation, adaptable dwelling units, Zero Carbon and Energy Step Code
  • Change of occupancy
  • Building inspections through the course of construction
  • Pre-approved secondary dwelling plans
  • Updates and information on issued building permits

If you do not have an existing file or application with staff, please give us a call to assist you with your questions and inquiries. If an appointment is required to discuss your questions further, we will book one for you over the phone with a planner and or building official. If you have an active file or permit and have questions related to that file, please call the assigned planner or building official to assist you.

If you have already had a phone call with staff to discuss your questions and you require a sit-down appointment, please find the booking form below. We will respond to all appointment requests within one business day, and appointments will be scheduled within five business days.
