State of Local Emergency Cancelled by Comox Valley Regional Emergency Operations Centre

Effective noon, February 3, 2026 the State of Local Emergency is cancelled by the Comox Valley Regional Emergency Operations Centre. The State of Local Emergency had been in effect since Friday, January 30, 2026 to support emergency response to flood conditions in the Comox Valley.

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will remain open at the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) with the purpose of continuing to support registered evacuees and coordinate the transition from response to recovery activities.  Approximately 150 people have been affected by flooding that occurred across the region. Assessments within the community are ongoing to confirm impacts.

“We want to thank residents for their patience and for supporting emergency responders and crews during this event,” explains CVRD Board Chair Will Cole-Hamilton. “As well, it is important to recognize all the community partners, local government staff, and emergency operations personnel who have been working tirelessly together to keep our community safe.”

Residents affected by the flooding can visit the CVRD website for available resources on flood debris management. Clean-Up kits are available for affected residents on a first come, first serve basis at the Lower Native Sons Hall on Tuesday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 4 between 2 – 4 pm. Clean-Up kits were kindly donated by the Canadian Red Cross. Each kit includes a mop, sponges, brooms, gloves and other supplies that can be used to safely clean flood-damaged homes and property.

Residents are encouraged to remain diligent as weather conditions can change suddenly. BC Hydro will be continuing to release water out of the reservoir in order to manage water levels. Please stay away from rivers, waterways and low-lying areas as water levels can change quickly. Tune in to your local news stations and monitor weather alerts and forecasts for information and updates.

Updated information will be posted on www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/eoc and on the Comox Valley Regional District social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky).
