We are accepting applications for a full-time Compost Facility Operator to join our Engineering Services team. The Compost Facility Operator operates, repairs, and maintains the biosolids compost facility and related equipment. Reporting to the Manager of Wastewater Services, the primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Installing, monitoring, operating, maintaining and repairing compost equipment (conveyors, mixers, front end loaders, screening plants, pumps, blowers, etc.) as required;
  • Conducting testing and monitoring as required to maintain effective composting processes; making adjustments within defined limits to ensure compliance with regulations and permits;
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting problems and developing and implementing solutions;
  • Assisting trades personnel in repair work as required;
  • Performing various laboratory tests; entering information into computer system and maintaining it as required for data analysis for process and inventory control and plant maintenance;
  • Loading compost into customer and commercial vehicles and completing load slips for billing purposes;
  • Maintaining an inventory of equipment, parts and supplies, and ordering as required;
  • Performing various general housekeeping duties such as painting, cleaning and landscape maintenance.

  • Mechanically inclined, skilled in the repair of equipment and performing calculations;
  • Safety-conscious with a demonstrated commitment to safe work practices;
  • Team oriented with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Detail oriented with the ability to keep accurate and complete records;
  • Knowledgeable in biosolids composting principles and processes;
  • Experienced in the operation and maintenance of front-end loaders and other heavy equipment in a production and process-oriented operation with over two up to three years of directly related experience following Grade 12 graduation;
  • Certified in First Aid (Level 1) with a valid BC Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement;
  • Other preferred certifications include: WHMIS, confined space entry and Compost Council of Canada’s Compost Facility Operator certification.

Successful candidates will be required to consent to a Canadian Criminal Record Check.
