2022 Earthquake Exercise – Fracture on 5th
On September 27, 2022 the Comox Valley Emergency Program (CVEP), administered through the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), hosted “Fracture on 5th”, a regional emergency training exercise at the main office on Harmston Avenue. The exercise ran from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm.
After Action Report - Fracture on 5th
The purpose of the exercise was to allow the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) response and support personnel to practice operational guidelines, procedures and communications systems, and to learn new skills in a controlled and safe learning environment. The general public did not participate in the exercise as it was specifically designed as a practice and training opportunity.
The exercise involved local personnel from the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland, CVRD, K’ómoks First Nation, Emergency Support Services, Emergency Radio Communications, Community Cares Peer Outreach, Fire Services personnel from the City of Courtenay, CVRD and Town of Comox, Comox Valley Search and Rescue, Comox Valley RCMP, Department of National Defence, St John Ambulance, Strathcona Regional District Emergency Program, Calian Group (exercise consultants), and further mutual aid from neighbouring emergency program teams.
This is a great reminder to everyone about the importance of becoming better prepared for an emergency and checking on neighbours.
