Craigdarroch Neighbourhood Park Engagement

Some residents from the Craigdarroch neighbourhood approached the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) asking about improving Montrose Park and adding park amenities to the neighbourhood.

In an effort to better understand the community's needs, the CVRD reached out to residents. Residents were invited to participate in a community survey to share their ideas, including images, about park improvements and park features they would like to see added to the neighbourhood. The community was engaged in the summer of 2023.

Based on feedback heard, CVRD parks staff began to put together a plan to work with the Province to open more beach accesses in the neighbourhood as any improvements to beach accesses requires the approval of the Province, which has jurisdiction. Working with the Province, the Spindrift beach access was formalized with signage and the Province was engaged with the Kalmar beach access. In addition to the beach accesses, CVRD staff procured a biophysical report on Montrose Park to better understand the ecological values of the site. Staff are still waiting for this report.

Items that may require substantial funds, such as playground equipment, or extensive planning, such as a parking area at Argyle or a boardwalk trail at Montrose, will be considered as part of the 2026 financial planning process.

Questions or suggestions can be directed to communityservices@comoxvalleyrd.ca at any time. Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to share their thoughts and ideas for park facilities for the Craigdarroch neighbourhood.
