The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is pleased to share an update on the Mount Washington Fire Hall and plans for construction to begin in early Spring 2026. Building tenders were released in October 2025, with plans to begin construction following the snowy winter season.
“I’m excited to see plans moving forward for fire hall construction up on Mount Washington,” says Edwin Grieve, Electoral Area C Director and Electoral Areas Services Committee Chair. “The Mount Washington Mountain Centre and subsequent fire hall are a testament to the need for community support in that area in providing community amenities while developing a proper emergency response station for residents and visitors up on Mount Washington.”
Construction at the facility will include truck bays to store response vehicles and other firefighting equipment.
The CVRD took possession of the Mountain Centre on February 1, 2025 and has been using the space for many functions: training grounds for volunteer firefighters, a community gym for locals in the area, group accommodations for various sports and extra-curricular activities, reunion/wedding venue, and meeting room rentals for fitness and educational purposes.
Staff are working with the CVRD Recreation department to maximize use of the Mountain Centre to help reduce the cost of the service over time. Existing users such as the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club will continue to have access.
Funds to purchase the building and to complete construction for the fire hall are coming from short-term debt, Community Works Funds (Union of BC Municipalities), and Growing Communities Fund (BC).
