Regional Growth Strategy Minor Amendment

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is updating its Regional Growth Strategy (RGS). This is a small, focused update that does not change the overall vision, goals, or policies. The aim is to keep the strategy accurate and aligned with the most recent information and Board direction.

The update includes:

  • Refreshing population and demographic information using the latest census
  • Updating greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets to reflect local progress
  • Confirming map boundary updates, including Agricultural Land Reserve areas and recent municipal boundary changes
  • Adding the CVRD’s Indigenous Relations driver to support respectful, collaborative planning
  • Improving clarity in maps, data, terminology, and references

These updates do not change how growth is planned in the Comox Valley. They simply ensure the RGS remains current. Because this is a minor amendment that does not alter the growth management framework, no impacts for residents are expected.

Engagement

When a Regional Growth Strategy is amended, the Local Government Act sets out specific engagement requirements. The CVRD Board has confirmed that these draft updates fit within the scope of a “minor amendment.” This means that engagement is more limited than it would be for a larger, full update. Even so, the CVRD will continue to share information and keep residents informed as the process moves forward.
