Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Path

Project Update - June 2025

Construction continues on the Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Path as it coincides with the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project.  Construction is at about 90% with an anticipated completion date of fall 2025..

The majority of the pathway is complete with meandering asphalt and gravel sections usable by the public. There are a couple of areas still under construction so please use caution while enjoying the path. Grass and wildflower covered areas are starting to show growth and newly planted trees are leafing out for spring.

The section through the marsh includes split rail fencing to delineate the path edge from the Wildlife Management Area and provides a safety barrier for pathway users. It also includes innovative amphibian protection fencing, designed by biologists with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure with input from local herpetology experts. The protective fencing ensures that amphibians utilize existing subsurface culverts to cross under Lazo road during seasonal migration. Reflective delineators have been installed at the road edge for further separation and protection of path users from passing vehicles.

There is a drinking fountain for people and dogs near Barber Avenue with benches and garbage receptacles spread out along the length of the pathway.

Project Kickoff - August 2024

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), in partnership with the Town of Comox, Government of Canada, and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI), are pleased to announce construction has begun for the Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Path (MUP).

Construction for this path will follow the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project and will be completed at the same time along Lazo Road. Teams from both projects have been working on construction overlap to reduce impact to residents, avoid individual project delays, and find potential cost savings.

Background

The Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Path is a joint project between the Town of Comox, Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) to create opportunities for walkers and cyclists to travel along Balmoral Road and Lazo Road. The project will provide a multi-use greenway path from Butchers Road to Sand Pines Drive and will help local residents connect to Goose Spit, Lazo Marsh, and Point Holmes by foot or bike. Major funding for the project is provided by the Government of Canada Active Transportation Fund.
