Automated Curbside Collection in Royston

Starting summer 2027, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will be rolling out an automated curbside collection service for Royston. Each residence will receive a set of three new wheeled carts:

  • New Organics: Co-Mingled Food & Yard Waste – Green Lid |360 L
  • Recycling – Blue Lid | 360L
  • Garbage – Black Lid | 120 L

New trucks, which use a mechanical arm to pick up and empty the carts, will replace manual collection. Automated collection is more reliable, faster, and helps improve workers health and safety. Organic carts will be equipped with locks to help prevent wildlife interactions.

What is changing?

  • Each residence will receive three new wheeled carts - standardized sizes to work with the automated trucks
  • New food and yard waste collection - collected every week
  • Garbage will be collected every other week, alternating with recycling
