The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is advising residents that the new artificial turf field at G.P. Vanier Secondary School is nearing completion but is not yet open for public use and remains an active construction site.
While turf installation is expected to wrap up this month, additional work and inspections are required before the field can safely open. This work includes landscaping, fencing, electrical work, and washroom construction.
The CVRD is targeting an early September opening for public use. Until then, residents are asked to stay out of the fenced construction area.
About the artificial turf field project
The project responds to growing demand for year-round field sport opportunities in the Comox Valley and was developed through a long-standing partnership between the CVRD and Comox Valley Schools. The school district provided the land for the project and has maintained the existing artificial turf field at G.P. Vanier, which was constructed in 2014.
Once open, the new multi-sport field will accommodate baseball, soccer, men’s and women’s field lacrosse, field hockey, and practice space for rugby and football. Comox Valley Schools will use the field on most weekdays during school hours, with community access available after 5 pm on weekdays and on weekends.
The CVRD thanks residents, nearby neighbours, sport organizations and facility users for their patience while construction continues. More information about the opening date and public access will be shared as the project moves through the final stages.
