Royston Moving to Stage Three Water Restrictions July 10

Properties connected to the Royston Water Local Service Area will move to stage three water restrictions on July 10, 2026, as the Village of Cumberland increases its restrictions in order to reduce the demand on the water supply and ensure an adequate amount of water for daily use and emergency fire suppression through the summer months.

“The Royston Water System is supplied through the Village of Cumberland, it is important that our residents help to ensure there is enough water for essential and emergency services in both jurisdictions as we navigate the drought conditions this summer,” says General Manager of Engineering Services Kris La Rose. “We thank the Royston community for continuing to preserve water and doing their part in reducing water use.”

During Stage 3 water restrictions, residential lawn watering is not permitted at any time. Residents are also prohibited from pressure washing driveways and boulevards, filling a swimming pool, hot tub or garden pond.

Residents are allowed to water trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables on any day between the hours of 6 am and 8 am, and 8 pm and 10 pm only if watering is done with a hand-held container, a hand-held hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle, or micro-irrigation/drip-irrigation system.

Residents are encouraged to minimize water use and conserve water to the greatest extent possible. For more information, visit comoxvalleyrd.ca/restrictions.

Background

The Comox Valley Regional District manages five water systems within the region. Each system has its own requirements for increasing water restrictions depending on the availability of water within that system and other related factors such as storage and infrastructure.

The Royston Water System is supplied from the Village of Cumberland. Per the terms of the Royston water conservation bylaw, shifts to higher stages of restriction are triggered by the Village of Cumberland adjusting their restrictions.

The Comox Valley Regional District is a partnership of three electoral areas and three municipalities operating on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of the land. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on providing sustainable services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
