Transit Elf Set to Surprise Riders on Friday, December 5

Transit Rider Appreciation Day returns on Friday, December 5, 2025, and the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is adding a little magic to the morning commute. The beloved Transit Elf will be back again this year, popping up to spread cheer, hand out treats, and share small gifts with riders throughout the day.

“We really appreciate everyone who rides transit in the Comox Valley,” says Michael Zbarsky, Manager of Transit and Facilities for the CVRD. “Last year, people were delighted to see the Transit Elf pop up at exchanges and on buses, so keep your eye out again this year.”

Throughout the day, the Transit Elf will make surprise appearances at transit exchanges and onboard multiple routes. There is no set schedule, which is part of the fun, so riders may encounter her at any point during their trip.

With the holidays approaching, Zbarsky also notes that the gift of transit is a convenient and affordable option for students, families, and commuters. Choices include preloaded gift cards, monthly passes, and student semester passes. Riders can also load funds through Umo, the transit app, which allows people to add value, scan their phone, and go. It is an easy way to stay moving and stay connected throughout the Comox Valley.
