The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), as part of the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project, is implementing a traffic pattern change at the new Glacier View Drive roundabout on Comox Avenue. Starting by the end of day Friday, October 31, 2025, local traffic will be able to travel eastbound on Comox Road, up the hill, and exit on Glacier View Drive.
The Glacier View Drive roundabout eastbound exit onto Comox Avenue (into the Town of Comox) will be closed. Local traffic will be able to detour along Glacier View Drive. A temporary timed traffic light will be installed at the roundabout to reduce the volume of eastbound traffic and ensure the continued flow of westbound traffic along Comox Avenue. Expect delays for eastbound travel on Comox Hill: the intention for this opening is only for local traffic and it will not be able to manage high traffic volumes or used as a commercial trucking route.
The current official detour via Ryan Road (see Map 1) will remain in place until the Rodello Roundabout construction is completed and will remain the fastest way to travel from Courtenay to Comox. The official detour is scheduled to be removed by the end of November, weather permitting. The purpose of this partial opening is to accommodate local area traffic on Comox Hill, which will help reduce traffic volume on the official detour route, allowing it to move faster on Ryan Road.
The CVRD appreciate the community’s patience as we endeavor to complete the construction on public roadways as quickly and safely as possible.

Bikes and Pedestrians
Two-way bike and pedestrian traffic will be possible on Comox Avenue through the construction zone. Bikes travelling eastbound on Comox Road up the hill will be able to continue east into Town of Comox on Comox Avenue.
