Regional Growth Strategy Minor Amendment

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) has completed a minor amendment to its Regional Growth Strategy (RGS). The update was adopted by the Board on March 17, 2026.

This was a focused update. It does not change the overall vision, goals, or how growth is planned in the Comox Valley. The aim was to keep the strategy current and aligned with the latest information and Board direction.

The update includes:

  • Updating population and demographic information using the latest census
  • Updating greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets to reflect local progress
  • Updating maps to reflect Agricultural Land Reserve areas and recent municipal boundary changes
  • Adding the CVRD’s Indigenous Relations driver to support respectful, collaborative planning
  • Improving clarity in maps, data, terminology, and references

These updates do not change how growth is planned in the region. They ensure the RGS reflects current information and policy direction.

Engagement

The Local Government Act sets out requirements for updating a Regional Growth Strategy. The CVRD Board confirmed this was a “minor amendment,” meaning a more limited engagement process was appropriate. The CVRD shared information throughout the process to keep residents and interested parties informed.
