Background
In partnership with Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), City of Courtenay and Town of
Comox, 75 Evolve E-Bikes will be launched in Courtenay and Comox in May, across over 20
Parking Zones, with more to come later this summer.
In 2022, CVRD conducted extensive research into mobility within the region and developed the Comox Valley Mobility Primer. The primer can be used as a reference guide about transportation modes, local travel patterns and actions that could be taken to facilitate more sustainable mode shares. Based on this work, the CVRD board directed staff to develop an electric bike share pilot program and BCAA was selected as the service provider to bring their Evolve program to the Comox Valley. This pilot program will help CVRD and member municipalities understand the level of demand within the Comox Valley. As well the program will highlight service delivery opportunities and challenges associated with this emerging mobility and how it can play a role in providing residents with affordable and environmentally friendly transportation options in the region.
Program Details
- BCAA’s Evolve E-Bike Share is expanding further on the Island to Comox Valley starting May
13th (TBC), launching the region’s first e-bike share program - Evolve Parking Zones span across downtown and key residential areas, including local
landmarks like the Comox Valley Art Gallery, Courtenay District Museum, Driftwood Mall etc.
Evolve is working closely with the Comox Valley Cycling Coalition (CVCC) in organizing bike
safety courses for the locals and supporting its development of cycling maps.
How it works:
- Download the Evo app and sign up
- Find an available e-bike in the app and unlock by scanning the bike’s QR code using the
app - Wear a helmet (shared helmets can be found in each Evolve E-Bike basket) and start
riding - Pay by the minute or hour, or opt-into monthly subscription
- Return to any Evolve Parking Zone in town and end your trip
