The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), in partnership with the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland, is currently undertaking a regional housing needs assessment. The findings of the work will help meet Goal No. 1 of the Regional Growth Strategy: Ensure a diversity of affordable housing options to meet evolving regional demographics and needs.

The project received funding from the Union of BC Municipalities. The results collected will show a broad range of quantifiable data regarding affordability, population (current and projected), real estate, homelessness and insecure housing, household incomes, dwelling unit types and condition. The data will be collected and analysed for each community. The results of the assessment will include specific community profiles as well as options for action.

“We want to hear from you about your housing needs, both current and future, including challenges that you may have faced,” explains Alana Mullaly, CVRD Senior Manager of Sustainability and Regional Growth Strategy Planning. “Please take a few minutes to fill out our online community survey and share your views so that decision makers will have data that reflects our community’s experiences.”

The survey is now available at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/housingneeds. The survey will be available until December 20, 2019. Results of the survey will be included within the summary report and help provide an overall picture of housing needs in the region. Results will be used to make decisions that will influence housing availability and affordability in the Comox Valley.
