As part of ongoing grouped watermain projects happening in the Comox Valley, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) water team will require a water shutdown from the Water Treatment Plant and main reservoir to most homes in the Union Bay Water System overnight from May 29, 2025 at 9pm until 6am on May 30.
“This shutdown is necessary to provide an important watermain connection to increase the Union Bay Water System’s resilience against future water service interruptions,” explains Kris La Rose, Senior Manager of Water/Wastewater Services. “Thank you for your patience and understanding while this disruption occurs.”
What You Need to Know:
- The shutdown will affect two zones (see Shutdown Map): water in Zone 1 will be completely shut off and have no water, while Zone 2 will have some access to water. Properties in Zone 1 should follow the recommendations below, while Zone 2 properties should limit use. Zone 3 will be unaffected by the shutdown.
- For zones 1 and 2, make sure you have enough drinking water on hand before 9:00 pm for any basic needs during this disruption.
- Do not shower, water plants, run the dishwasher, do laundry, or use any water during the shutdown period. Water stored in a bathtub may be used to replenish water in toilet tanks.
- Turn off power to any electric hot water tanks (if you have one).
- Please use caution when driving past construction crews on McLeod Road.
- The CVRD water team will try to restore water service before the time noted; however, the actual duration may depend on the watermain conditions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. For more information and further updates, visit www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/maintenance or contact Engineering Services for questions on which zone your property is in.
