Road Closure and Intersection Notice for the Week of October 7, 2024

The Comox Valley Regional District announces necessary intersection and road closures required as part of the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project.

Beaufort Avenue: Estimated Construction Schedule

MAP  1: Beaufort Avenue Intersection and Road Closures October 7 – October 25.

 

  • October 7 – October 11: The intersection of Beaufort Avenue and Jane Place will be closed from Monday, October 7 and is estimated to last until Friday, October 11, 2024 to accommodate the installation of two large valve chambers. Beaufort Avenue will be closed from Stewart Street to Nordin Street (MAP 1).
    • Beaufort Avenue and Jane Place residents will be provided access, however, are asked to please anticipate delays while the valve chambers are installed and to follow the directions of traffic control personnel. 
       
  • October 11- October 25: Beaufort Avenue will be closed from Jane Place to Nordin Street starting approximately October 11 to October 25, 2024 (MAP 1) for the installation of the new sewer forcemain pipe.

These works will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 am until 8:00 pm, Monday to Friday. To ensure the safety and convenience of commuters, detour routes will be clearly marked and supported with traffic control personnel.

The Comox Branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library, located at 1720 Beaufort Avenue, will remain open to the public during construction. Street parking on Beaufort Avenue will not be available during construction. The public is asked to park outside of the construction zone.

Lazo Road: Estimated Construction Schedule

MAP  2:  Lazo Road and Guthrie Road Intersection Closure October 7- October 16, 2024

 

  • October 7 – October 16: The intersection closure of Lazo Road and Guthrie Road will be closed from Monday, October 7 and is estimated to last until Wednesday, October 16, 2024 (MAP 2).

MAP  3: Lazo Road Closure October 17 - November 18, 2024

 

  • October 17 – November 18: Lazo Road will be closed from Guthrie Road to Balmoral Road (MAP 3). Before closing this section of Lazo Road, the section from Brent Road to Guthrie Road will be opened.

These works will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 am until 7:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. To ensure the safety and convenience of commuters, detour routes will be clearly marked and supported with traffic control personnel along the detour route.

Lazo Road will be accessible to residents only. Neighbourhood residents who do not have property access on Lazo Road, between Guthrie Road and Balmoral Road, are asked to use alternate routes to access their homes.

At the end of each construction working day, the open excavation sections will be fully fenced with temporary steel fencing and all other traffic control devices such as delineators, signage and detour routes will be in place.

Paving Balmoral Avenue: Weather Dependent Estimated Construction Schedule

MAP  4: Estimated Paving Dates and Detour Route for Balmoral Ave. October 8 - October 9, 2024

 

  • October 7: Preparation of paving on Balmoral Avenue will begin Monday, October 7 with single lane alternating traffic through the intersections of Stewart Street and Balmoral Avenue and Pritchard Road and Balmoral Avenue.
  • October 8 - October 9: The intersections of Stewart Street and Balmoral Avenue and Pritchard Road and Balmoral Avenue as well as Balmoral Avenue to Donovan Drive will be closed for preparation and paving. (MAP 4)These works will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 am until 8:00 pm, Monday to Friday. To ensure the safety and convenience of commuters, detour routes will be clearly marked and supported with traffic control personnel.

Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and to anticipate additional travel time during the closure period. The cooperation and patience of the public are greatly appreciated as we work to enhance the sewer system infrastructure of our community.
