Register Today for Free Green Shores Information Session

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is offering a free information session for property owners to learn more about green shores as a   nature-based solution to shoreline management which helps to restore a natural shoreline as well as addresses challenges including sea level rise, storm surge and coastal erosion within the region.

This free session will also introduce a new incentives project happening at Gartley Beach. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about this project with a presentation by Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC). This initiative has been funded by the Real Estate Foundation of BC and the Pacific Salmon Foundation with in-kind contributions from the CVRD, Town of Qualicum Beach, Green Shores Local Government Working Group, and Green Shores Technical Advisory Committee.

“Within the Comox Valley, the Gartley Beach neighborhood was chosen as the pilot study area for this initiative given its natural shoreline,” explains Alana Mullaly, General Manager of Planning and Development. “What many property owners are not aware of is that nature based methods like utilizing green shore techniques along shorelines provide many benefits including lower costs than hard sea wall approaches. Participation within the pilot study and information session is completely voluntary and free.”

Participation in the public information session will provide an understanding of the challenges and opportunities for waterfront property owners exploring green shores methods and how they might work in the Gartley Beach neighborhood in Royston. Property owners will be able to review the shoreline assessment and green shore design concept that has been prepared for Gartley Beach by NHC.  CVRD staff, the Stewardship Centre for BC and NHC will be available for discussion and questions.
