Join the Comox Valley Emergency Radio Communications Team

Would you like to get involved during an emergency or disaster affecting the Comox Valley? Become a radio operator with the Comox Valley Emergency Management (CVEM) Service by attending an amateur radio course in April and May.

Join the Emergency Radio Communication Team for a five-day amateur radio course beginning Sunday, April 27th, 2025.

Amateur Radio Course (Hosted by Comox Valley Emergency Management)

  • Five Consecutive Sundays (April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25)
  • Facilitated by members of the Comox Valley Amateur Radio Club (CVARC)
  • 9:00 am to 3:30 pm each day
  • Final test on May 25, 2025

“This is a great opportunity to become involved in the community and understand the basics of radio communications and the use of amateur radio”, explains Monique Thomas, Emergency Programs and Partnerships Facilitator. “If you have amateur/ham radio experience or if you are keen to learn and get involved, we would love to hear from you.”

Knowing what to do during a major disaster may be difficult. As a CVEM volunteer emergency radio operator, you will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to respond when phone service and electrical power are down.

To register, email emergencyprogram@comoxvalleyrd.ca or call 250-334-6000 and ask for Comox Valley Emergency Management. For more information on emergency management training, visit www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/training.
