Free Yard Debris Drop-Off to Support FireSmart Preparedness This Spring

The Comox Valley FireSmart™ Collaborative, in partnership with Vancouver Island Enterprises, is building on the success of the Yard Debris Drop-Off program in 2025. Free drop off will be offered for the months of April and May 2026. This program is open to all residents of the Comox Valley.

  • Location: 1200 Knight Road, Comox
  • Time: Daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Dates: April and May 2026
    *Note: This service is weather dependent*

Accepted Materials: Leaves, grass clippings, branches up to 3 inches in diameter, plants. Materials can be loose or in paper yard waste bags.
Not Accepted: Food waste, plastic bags, rocks, or concrete, root balls, and stumps.
Invasive species: not accepted through this drop-off program. They can be disposed of at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre. For a complete list: Invasive Plants & Alternatives
Commercial Operators: not eligible to participate in this program.

This initiative allows residents to dispose of extra yard waste that may not fit in curbside containers, free of charge. 

"By removing dry leaves, twigs, and branches from your yard and gutters, you can help protect your home and community from wildfire damage." says Captain Brent Craven of Comox Fire Rescue.

FireSmart BC is a provincial initiative to reduce the impact of wildfires on BC homes, communities, and the environment by empowering residents, communities, and government with the tools and knowledge to create wildfire resilient places.
