Firefighting Course Taking Place in Community on May 2

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and surrounding fire departments would like to make the public aware of a firefighting course taking place in the community to help train for wildfire scenarios.

The “Engine Boss” course will be taking place on Saturday, May 2 from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm and will feature approximately 15 fire department vehicles. These vehicles will be driving around with lights on in the following areas:

  • Macauley Road
  • Saratoga Beach
  • Glenmore Road
  • Catherwood Road
  • Miracle Beach
  • Staging location will be Saratoga Speedway to start (roughly 8:00 am) and the Miracle Beach Park parking lot around the lunch hour.

“We’re excited to offer this training in the community,” explains Bruce Green, CVRD Regional Rural Fire Chief. “We’ll have trucks and firefighters from fire departments in Nanaimo, Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, Campbell River, Oyster River, Port MacNeil, Sproat Lake, Ucluelet, Parksville, and Duncan. During this course, there will be no danger to the public. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation while we support this important training in the region.”

There will be no emergency as part of this exercise/course. Please use caution if you encounter these firefighting trucks in the area.

This is a good reminder to use caution this weekend and moving forward during the spring months. As temperatures are beginning to climb and warm weather is becoming more regular, it’s important to consider the conditions and do what you can to reduce fire activity.

The Comox Valley Regional District is a partnership of three electoral areas and three municipalities operating on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of the land. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on providing sustainable services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
