CVRD Acquires Fanny Bay Senior Society Hall

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) has acquired 418 Ships Point Road (the Fanny Bay Senior Society Hall) to allow for its continued use as a community facility and enable future service possibilities.

“We are excited to announce this land purchase, after the Fanny Bay community organized a fundraiser and approached the CVRD to secure this piece of land as a public asset”, explains Electoral Area A Director Daniel Arbour. “There is a lack of publicly owned lands in the southern portion of the Comox Valley, and the property is in a key location at the corner of Ships Point Road and Highway 19A. I am excited about current and future possibilities for this land and Fanny Bay residents.”

The hall will remain an active community hall for the Fanny Bay community under the day-to-day operation of the Fanny Bay Senior Society.

"We are very pleased that the CVRD decided to purchase the property and partner with our Society to continue operating the hall.  We are also incredibly  grateful to our community for their generous donations that showed support to purchase this important community asset," says Joan Johnsen, President of the Fanny Bay Senior Society. "We look forward to a great partnership with the CVRD."

Purchase of the hall will be funded by the CVRD’s Baynes Sound Community Facilities Support Service and the Fanny Bay Senior Society.  The Society and community fundraised $47,000 to be put towards the purchase of the property to ensure its long-term use as an important community facility. The remaining funds needed to complete the purchase will be borrowed by the CVRD with the loan being repaid within five years.

The Comox Valley Regional District is a partnership of three electoral areas and three municipalities operating on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of the land. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on providing sustainable services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
