The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is advising residents that the Comox Valley Sports Centre located at 3001 Vanier Drive in Courtenay will be re-opening September 8, 2020. The facility has been closed to the public since March 17 to help limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
“The re-opening of the Sports Centre, including the pool facility, has been a top priority to ensure the well-being and health of our community,” explains Sports Commission Chair Daniel Arbour. “The Aquatic Centre will remain closed for now while we monitor the demand and COVID-19 risks prior to re-opening this facility. In order to protect the health and safety of users and the staff please remain home if you are sick or showing any signs of COVID-19.”
The re-opening of the facility follows the BC Recreation and Parks Association and WorkSafe BC guidelines. Pool offerings at the facility will be limited to ensure a safe and healthy experience. Available pool programs will include aquacise, rehab swim times, lane swim times, and select swim lessons. At this time the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre will remain closed. More information about CVRD programming at the Sports Centre is available in the Fall Recreation Guide, which is now online.
Users will be able to reserve 55 minute time slots online through Perfect Mind or by phone to enjoy the facility and pool Monday through Friday during the operating hours of 6:00 am until 8:15 pm, plus Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 am - 1:00 pm. Reservations will be limited per time slot and standard drop-in rates will apply. Account credits may be utilized for this program. Low income subsidies are available by phone only. Refunds will only be available if cancelled 24 hours in advance of your reservation.
For more information on the re-opening, or to make a reservation or register for a program, call 250-334-9622 or visit www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/registration.
