The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is excited to announce the launch of the Septic System Maintenance Rebate Program, a three-year pilot initiative available to residents in the Comox Valley Electoral Areas A, B, and C, aimed at supporting the continued safe operation of private on-site septic systems across the region. This program will help homeowners protect public health, extend the life of their septic systems, and reduce environmental impacts.
"This pilot program is about supporting residents in maintaining their septic systems, which plays a vital role in protecting our environment and community health," says Manager of Liquid Waste Planning Darry Monteith. "By assisting in identifying maintenance needs, we hope to prevent costly system failures and safeguard local water quality."
Eligible property owners can apply for a one-time rebate of up to $700 per property for essential septic system maintenance completed by authorized professionals, including system inspection and component replacement. The program is designed to incentivize proactive care, with funds allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and a streamlined process for pre-approvals and waitlists to ensure fair access.
Applications for the 2026 rebate are now open. Property owners are encouraged to review eligibility criteria and begin the application process early, as funding is limited each year.
Key Details:
- The rebate covers 75% of eligible maintenance costs, up to a one-time maximum of $700 per property.
- Eligible actions include system inspection (up to $500), and installation or replacement of access risers (up to $400), distribution boxes (up to $200), and effluent filters (up to $100).
- Maintenance must be performed by an Authorized Person, as defined by the provincial Sewerage System Regulation, to qualify for the rebate.
- Installation of new systems and septic tank pump-outs do not qualify.
- With an annual budget of $36,000 from 2026 to 2028, funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-approval allows applicants to reserve funds for 90 days.
The CVRD is committed to supporting sustainable practices, protecting public health, and preserving the environment within its jurisdiction. The Septic System Maintenance Rebate Program is part of ongoing efforts to promote responsible wastewater management and ensure the long-term well-being of the Comox Valley community.
