The Comox Valley Aquatic Centre reopens on Tuesday, September 8, with the fall recreation schedule in effect.
The facility was closed over the summer for major infrastructure upgrades and annual maintenance. The work focused on improving energy efficiency, indoor comfort, service accessibility, and the long-term reliability of the building. Upgrades included replacing the aging heating and ventilation systems, installing new acoustic panels and baffles to reduce echo in the pool area, replacing the roof and skylights, refurbishing the waterslide, and completing extensive maintenance on the pools, water systems, and building infrastructure.
“The Aquatic Centre is an important community asset, and these investments will help ensure it continues to serve residents for years to come,” said Senior Manager of Recreation Services Trish Morgan. “The upgrades will improve comfort through better air quality, humidity control, and a quieter pool environment, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping prevent future unscheduled service interruptions.”
Morgan added that keeping the Comox Valley Sports Centre open during the Aquatic Centre closure helped maintain recreation access throughout the project.
“We appreciate the community’s patience while this important work was completed and are excited to welcome everyone back,” said Morgan.
