The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) invites residents to join the celebration as the Comox Valley Sports Centre marks its 50th anniversary on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The facility opened its doors in 1975 so the theme of the day will be a throwback to 1975. This family-friendly event will honour five decades of recreation, community connection, and healthy living in the Comox Valley.
Event activities at original 1975 prices include:
- a retro-themed aquafit class (1:30 – 2:30 pm),
- a cake cutting in the lobby at 2:45 pm,
- a public swim (3:00 – 5:00 pm),
- a public skate (3:45 -5:15 pm),
- and a pool side movie (6:00 – 8:00pm).
We will be honouring the 1975 admissions for all events on Saturday September 6. Children 12 and under ($0.30), Teens 13-18 ($0.45), Adults 19-54 ($0.75) and Seniors 55+ ($0.30).
Starting August 7, the facility will also be kicking off celebrations with 50 Days of Giveaways. One patron per day will win a free admission just for showing up and being part of the celebration.
“As part of the celebration, residents are invited to participate in a community photo contest from August 7-23 that showcases the rich history and personal memories tied to the Comox Valley Sports Centre,” explains Trish Morgan, Assistant Senior Manager of Recreation Services. “Participants can submit photos taken at the facility from 1975 to the present for a chance to win a 3-month family pass. Each valid photo submission also receives a complimentary admission pass to the Sports Centre.”
Submissions can be made online at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/sportscentre50 or dropped off in person at the front desk of the Sports Centre. Select photos will be displayed as part of a historical photo exhibit during the event on September 6.
“We’re incredibly proud of the role the Comox Valley Sports Centre has played in the lives of so many community members the past 50 years,” says Trish Morgan. “This event is all about celebrating our history, our community, and the generations who have grown up in this facility.”
The CVRD extends appreciation to its partners, including 100.7 The Raven, Comox Valley McDonalds, along with CVRD staff and community members for helping bring this event to life.
