We are accepting applications for a permanent full-time Senior Communications and Engagement Advisor to join our Communications and Engagement Team. The Senior Communications and Engagement Advisor works on a variety of public engagement, education and communication projects for the Comox Valley Regional District.
Reporting to the Manager of Communications and Engagement, the primary responsibilities of the role are:
- Identifying, developing and executing multi-channel communications, education and engagement plans supporting key CVRD initiatives in a cost efficient and effective manner;
- Maintaining strong knowledge and understanding of CVRD’s operations and emerging trends and issues;
- Ensuring corporate branding and messaging is clear and consistent, and initiatives and tactics align with core services, strategic plan drivers and strategic priorities to support and maintain a centralized presence and voice for the CVRD;
- Serving as a liaison for media requests and coordinating media responses;
- Providing senior level expertise, advice and training to CVRD staff, consultants and external partners in communication activities and strategies;
- Assigning tasks and monitoring the work of CVRD communications staff, contractors and consultants;
- Developing social media plans and coordinating digital marketing campaigns and messages;
- Developing social media responses, issues briefings, key messages, speaking notes, news releases and reports for senior staff and directors;
- Coordinating and conducting market research, market surveys, open houses and feedback opportunities identified through public engagement plans;
- Developing, writing, and editing the development of a wide variety of communications materials including news releases, videos, backgrounders, reports, newsletters, brochures, displays and signage;
- Overseeing content on the CVRD and Engage Comox Valley websites;

Acting as an information officer and providing emergency management support as required.
Our ideal candidate is:
- Self-directed, motivated and creative;
- A strong communicator with exceptional writing, facilitation and interpersonal skills;
- Able to effectively manage multiple demands and projects, meet deadlines and ensure effective delivery of projects on time and budget;
- Able to adapt to change and identify and develop the best tools and timing for providing effective information to various stakeholders;
- Comfortable providing advice to senior staff and corresponding directly with the Chief Administrative Officer and Board of Directors when required, exercising sound judgement in handling sensitive information;
- Skilled in public engagement, marketing, events management and communications with over three years of experience developing and implementing communications programs and engagement initiatives for a diverse organization, preferably in local government;
- Skilled in developing and participating in the implementation of all facets of a strategic communications and engagement plan;
- Educated in communications, marketing, public relations or another related discipline at the post-secondary level, with an undergraduate degree of four years, or equivalent;
- Current in managing social media platforms including Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn and YouTube;
- Knowledgeable in graphic design and production programs, photography, video production, print and web production, and social media channels;
- An advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint applications;
- Certification with the International Association for Public Participation, emergency management information officer training, previous experience working with Creative Suite 6 and project management experience is preferred.
A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required for this role. This is a CUPE Local 556 position with a current wage rate of $41.10 per hour (under review).
