We are accepting applications for a part-time (on-call) Custodian to join our Recreation Operations team. This position plays a key role in ensuring that our facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Sweeping, washing, stripping, and sealing floors. Cleaning and disinfecting washrooms, change rooms, showers, walls, fixtures, mirrors, and counters;
  • Cleaning and maintaining pool deck and associated areas such as hot tub, sauna, steam room, stairs, rails, ramps, boards, and bleachers. Adding pool chemicals as required;
  • Cleaning windows, walls, doors, cabinets, desks, and equipment throughout facilities;
  • Set up and take down of facilities for special events, program activities, and user groups;
  • Replenishing supplies and requesting supplies and equipment as required;
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment and tools, removing garbage and recycling;
  • Opening and closing facility as required;
  • Maintaining routine records and logs;
  • Monitoring facilities and reporting any maintenance needs or concerns to the Manager.

Our ideal candidate is:

  • Safety conscious and mechanically inclined with a minimum of six months of directly related experience including: working knowledge of the materials, current methods, tools and equipment used in janitorial work, strong knowledge of WHMIS and proper and safe use of cleaning products and basic knowledge of routine building maintenance and repair;
  • A strong communicator with a professional approach to customer service;
  • Certified in WHMIS, current criminal record clearance, a valid BC driver’s license and Grade 12 graduation;
  • Able to effectively respond to customer concerns or complaints, including emergency situations when required;
  • Flexible in working a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays;
  • Additional preferred qualifications include: Building Service Worker Certificate – Level I or equivalent.

Successful candidates will be required to consent to a Canadian Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector search if applicable).
