Hornby & Denman Islands Heritage Conservation AAP

At its February 25, 2014 meeting, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) Board of Directors initiated an alternative approval process (AAP) for Bylaw No. 317 being “Hornby Island Heritage Conservation Service Establishment Bylaw No. 317, 2014” and Bylaw No. 318 being “Denman Island Heritage Conservation Service Establishment Bylaw No. 318, 2014.”

The proposed bylaws would establish area-specific heritage conservation services on Hornby Island and Denman Island.

Results

In order for the CVRD to proceed with the final adoption of Bylaw No. 317 and Bylaw No. 318, less than 10 per cent of the electors in the service area would have had to submit an elector response form.

In the case of the proposed Hornby Island heritage conservation service, the total number of electors within the service was 814; 10 per cent of that number, or 81 electors, would have had to submit an elector response form to prevent the CVRD from adopting Bylaw No. 317 without going to referendum. In the case of the proposed Denman Island heritage conservation service, the total number of electors within the service as 776; 10 per cent of that number, or 78 electors, would have had to submit an elector response form to prevent the CVRD from adopting Bylaw No. 318 without going to referendum.

At the close of the process on April 17, 2014, zero (0) elector response forms were received from the electors in the Hornby Island service area, and zero (0) elector response forms were received from the electors in the Denman Island service area.
