News Release - Construction for Union Bay Fire Hall Kicks Off
Please note: the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) owns the land where the new fire hall is being built and is not affected by the ongoing situation with Union Bay Estates.
Current Situation / Background
The existing firehall was built in 1956. Due to its age and size, the building has unfortunately reached the end of its use. New fire trucks cannot physically fit into the truck bays and storage issues continue to occur for emergency response crews.

Existing Firehall Constraints
• Small building design – limited space and storage options
• Difficult to upgrade fire trucks – cannot fit properly with sufficient space on the side
• Limited parking – firefighters need to park across the highway, posing an added safety risk
• No laundry or showers for firefighters
• Only one washroom and sink
• No training areas available
• Inadequate response capabilities
