New Year Brings New Updates on the Sewer Extension South Project

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is kicking off the New Year with updated information for residents about plans for regional sewer service in Royston and Union Bay.

The proposed Sewer Extension South Project will connect homes and businesses in Royston and Union Bay to the Comox Valley Sewer Service, creating a regional approach for the treatment of wastewater. This new regional system would also serve Union Bay Estates and K’ómoks First Nation Treaty Settlement Lands.

Three events are scheduled for January and all interested community members are invited to attend either an in-person, drop-in style open house or the virtual webinar at the time that best suits their schedule:

In-Person Open Houses:

Thursday, January 25 - 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Union Bay Community Hall (5401 Island Hwy S, Union Bay)
Wednesday, January 31 - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Fallen Alders Hall (3595 Royston Rd, Royston)

Online Webinar:

Monday, January 29 - 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
To register visit: www.engagecomoxvalley.ca/sewerextension

These events will provide updates about the collection system design, estimated costs and the timeline for the work ahead.

“We know that residents are interested in what happens next and our project team is looking forward to sharing more details with the community now that we’ve been able to advance the project design and refine the financial plan,” said Darry Monteith, Manager of Liquid Waste Planning. “Feedback gathered at these events will be shared with the province in a final report as part of the approval process for the project”.
