The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is recruiting for 6 Committees, Commissions and Boards. Volunteer with us and share your unique perspective and expertise. Recruiting is open until January 31, 2019 at 4:30 pm.
Advisory Planning Commissions (APC)
APCs are established for each of Electoral Area A (Baynes Sound–Denman/Hornby Islands), Area B (Lazo North) and Area C (Puntledge–Black Creek). As an advisory body of local residents, APCs provide input on matters respecting land use, community planning, proposed bylaws and permits.
Each APC consists of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 9 appointed members. Applicants should be a resident of one of the above-mentioned electoral areas and are required to have basic local knowledge of and an interest in planning and land use and be able to attend monthly evening meetings. Agricultural Advisory Planning Commission (AAPC)
The AAPC is established to provide input and advice regarding a variety of agricultural issues within the Comox Valley.
The AAPC consists of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 9 appointed members representing active or retired farmers that reflect the agricultural diversity of the region in terms of geography, demographics and commodity groups. Applicants will be required to be able to attend monthly meetings during the day or evening. More information regarding duties and responsibilities can be found at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/apcs
Board of Variance (BOV)
The BOV is an independent body that consists of three members appointed by the CVRD Board to consider applications to provide a variance or exemption where a person alleges that compliance with the zoning bylaw regulations would cause hardship.
Expressions of interest are being accepted to fill one vacancy on the Board. Experience in areas such as land use planning, architecture, building design, engineering, planning, and the building industry are an asset in performing duties required of Board members. Applicants will be required to be able to attend monthly meetings during the day.
Integrated Regional Transportation Select Committee (IRTSC)
The IRTSC is an advisory body established to consider collaboration on regional transportation projects, priorities and infrastructure including the specific promotion of a bike commuter path or multi-use corridor along Comox Road. The committee’s mandate also includes investigating the concept of a single point of contact for transportation-related initiatives in the Comox Valley.
Expressions of interest are being accepted to fill one vacancy on the Committee. Applicants will be required to have basic local knowledge of and an interest in regional transportation issues, alternate forms of transportation and the ability to attend meetings held during the day. The deadline date for submissions to all the above-noted volunteer opportunities is January 31, 2019 at 4:30 pm. Appointments will be made by the CVRD Board following the close of the recruitment period. Any person who is interested may apply by submitting a letter to the CVRD outlining their qualifications including relevant experience and skills related to the specific committee, commission or board.
