Regional District parks protect a wide range of natural environments – from sandy beaches to West Coast rain forest, sensitive wetlands and salmon streams. Parks also provide for numerous recreation activities – local residents visit parks to enjoy walking, jogging, mountain biking, horseback-riding, picnicking, photography and wildlife viewing. The regional district aims to serve different age groups as well as people of varying mobility. To ensure parks and trails meet residents’ needs and respect sensitive environments and wildlife, the regional district prepares park master plans and site specific plans in consultation with the public. Each year, the regional district initiates projects to update park master plans, extend or improve trails, put in picnic or viewing areas or improve parking and park accesses.
