Denman Island Parks and Greenways Plan
Partly Cloudy

The CVRD would like your input on the development of a parks and greenways plan for Denman Island.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is responsible for the planning, acquisition and development of regional parks on Denman Island. In light of this responsibility, the regional district wishes, in consultation with residents and landowners, to establish a long-term vision and plan for a parks and greenways system on Denman Island.

The CVRD owns Bill Mee Park as well as two small pocket parks, Stanehill and MacFarlane parks. CVRD will take over management of a new park at the north end of Denman Island in July of this year. To date the regional district does not own, nor manage, any greenways (trails or wildlife corridors) on Denman Island. In addition to the CVRD park sites, there are three provincial parks (BC Parks) on Denman – Boyle Point, Fillongley and Sandy Island Marine Park.

The regional district held an open house at the Denman Community Hall on June 23, 2010 to gather input on what places are important to Denman residents, what areas should be protected and on opportunities for parks, greenways and recreation areas to be provided. Many residents completed our survey and provided comments at the open house. For survey and open house summaries, see below:

Based on the results and comments received, the regional district will hold a second open house later this year to present a proposed parks master plan for Denman island residents to review. Open house dates will be announced in the local paper and on this web page.
