CVRD board chair Edwin Grieve presents long-time Comox Valley resident and activist, Ruth Masters with the commemorative Diamond Jubilee medal that was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth the Second. The medal also serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. In 2004, Ms Masters donated 18 acres of her property bordering on the Puntledge River to the CVRD as a greenway and wildlife sanctuary. The value of this property in 2004 was estimated to be at least $1.5 million dollars. With this donation, deer and bears and other wild animals will continue to wander freely.
