Goose Spit Beach Fire Program Update

Updated August 16: The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD),  in consultation with the Goose Spit park steward and the local area medical health officer,  has reinstated the suspension of the beach fire program due to air quality levels in the region.

The fire rings at Goose Spit Park are closely monitored by the CVRD-contracted parks steward who will ensure public compliance with the ban of open fires.   The CVRD will continue to monitor the local conditions and will re-assess the suspension as air quality starts to improve.

Due to the current province-wide fire ban, beach fires are still prohibited in Joe Walker Park and in the fire rings near the Powell River ferry at Little River.

Smoking ban in parks
Due to the dry, hot weather the regional district asks that park users not to smoke when enjoying a walk in one of our 31 parks.  Signs are being posted at the more popular parks reminding people of the high fire risk. The smoking ban applies to all regional district parks including Nymph Falls, Wildwood Forest, Seal Bay, Tsolum Spirit and Masters in the Courtenay/Comox area as well as Mt. Geoffrey and Grassy Point parks on Hornby Island. Your cooperation is appreciated.
