The North Island 911 Corporation provides an emergency communication link between citizens and visitors, and the emergency responders serving our geographic area.
The initial answering point for public safety 911 calls is E-Comm, which then determines the type of call and transfers the call to RCMP, fire or ambulance. The dispatch centre for the RCMP is located in Courtenay, fire dispatch is located at the #1 fire hall in Campbell River and ambulance dispatch is located in Victoria. See "Dispatch Centres" for a complete description of these operations.
The North Island 911 Corporation was established on January 5, 1995 to provide and manage emergency 911 services to the Comox Valley Regional District, the Strathcona Regional District and the Regional Districts of Mt. Waddington and Alberni-Clayoquot and a portion (School District No. 69) of the Nanaimo Regional District. The Powell River Regional District (exluding Lasqueti Island) joined the service in 1999.
