The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is looking for a proponent to utilize grant funding from the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) which is aimed at housing people.
In March, VIHA awarded grant funds to the CVRD. The CVRD board committed $126,000 for various projects and has a remainder of up to $174,000 available for services under this request for proposals. At its July meeting, the CVRD board established a select committee on disbursing the VIHA grant funds, focusing on issues of homelessness with an eye on “housing first”.
The CVRD issued a request for proposal (RFP), based on the select committee's recommendation of a “scattered housing” model in the RFP, in which housing is provided in apartments scattered throughout a community, with connection to supportive treatment services in the areas of mental and physical health, substance abuse, education and employment.
The successful proponent to the RFP and the ultimate allocation of the money will require approval by the CVRD board. For information on the RFP itself, visit www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/rdbid.
The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities providing sustainable services for residents and visitors to the area. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
