The CVRD is looking for a Level I or Level II Waterworks Operator.  This position’s role is to operate, maintain and repair the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CVRD) water supply and distribution systems.
Duties include but not limited to:

  • Installing, maintaining, repairing, monitoring, and testing waterworks equipment, water mains and services, hydraulic controls, facilities and other appurtenances required for the operation of the water systems
  • Inspecting connections to the water system and advising the Senior Waterworks Operator or Manager of Water Services of water leaks.
  • Responding to enquiries and complaints from the general public regarding water quality and quantity.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings and plans of water systems and components; updating files as appropriate.
  • Keeping records such as maintenance, inventory, water tests, and as-builts.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • The minimum education and experience requirements for a Level I or Level II Water Operator as outlined in the respective job descriptions.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, procedures, bylaws, codes, regulations, methods, tools and equipment used to operate, maintain, and repair the water systems and equipment.
  • The ability to analyze and troubleshoot various problems and implement solutions.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • The ability to foster sound professional relationships both internally and externally with contractors and the general public.

Note:  The successful applicant must be able to work standby rotations and emergency call-out.

This is a CUPE Local 556 position. Employment terms and conditions are as per the current CUPE Local 556 collective agreement.
