Thank you to all the workplaces and individuals that made the effort to participate in the Commuter Challenge from June 4-10. Your dedication and enthusiasm were much appreciated!
The Commuter Challenge is a week-long event during Canadian Environment Week (June 4-10, 2017). It’s a friendly competition between Canadian cities and workplaces to track trips taken to work by transit, cycling, walking, carpooling or telecommuting. Workplace participants had a chance to win some fantastic prizes for registering and tracking how they got to work between June 4-10.
The Comox Valley achieved the 5th highest participation rate in British Columbia with 95 organizations involved and 125 active participants. Together, they travelled 4551 km, saving 825 kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere and burning nearly 90,000 calories.
Carpoolers, cyclists & bus riders really dominated the event: 40% of participants travelled to work by bike, 28% carpooled, 18% took transit, 5% telecommuted and 9% walked.
